I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree from California Baptist University in Riverside, my Master of Divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (1979) in Fort Worth, Texas, and my Doctor of Ministry degree from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California

I have been invited to speak at national and international forums including The United Nations, The World Economic Forum in Davos, The African Union, The Council on Foreign Relations, Harvard's Kennedy School of Government, TED, and TIME's Global Health Summit. He is also a signer of a statement concerning the global warming initiative.

In 2006 I signed a bill creating the nation's first cap on greenhouse gas emissions. The law set new regulations on the amount of emissions utilities, refineries and manufacturing plants are allowed to release into the atmosphere

I also signed a second global warming bill that prohibits large utilities and corporations in my state from making long-term contracts with suppliers who do not meet the state's greenhouse gas emission standards

I have been married to my wife since 1986 and we have four children
